Finally, you can now have EVERYTHING you need to know to create an exciting and unique Tour de France program in your indoor cycling studio! Jennifer is the Tour de France expert, having attended many stages over 18 years of traveling to France for cycling tours. She’s also the expert on creating exciting TDF profiles for indoor cycling classes. For six years she presented workshops on how to be creative with your Tour de France programming, at fitness and Spinning conferences including WSSC, ECA and Can Fit Pro .
Jennifer has taken that very same presentation and added tons of new and exciting tips – it’s twice as long as it was at the conferences, even more informative than before, and its been updated with current information for the 2010 Tour. Instructors paid a lot of money to attend these conferences – and we are providing it to you for a very small investment.
Your certification didn’t teach you this so I will. If you like to use music to encourage specific pedal cadences, check out this new video on how to use a tap-to-the-beat counter. Here is the link to get it for Windows Users.

Here are some great stretches you can use in your class. I found this over at the ACE site and thought you might find it interesting.
My wife suggested that some listeners (and a certain Group Fitness Podcast Host) may not understand the “subscribe in iTunes” thing. So I made a short video that demonstrates subscribing to her new show; Group Fitness Talk Radio! It takes you through the whole process and includes how to set up your iPod so everything is automatic.
Here is a great video on proper bike setup that features Angie Sturtevant from CycleOps.
Here is my solution to one of my biggest frustrations: watching someone ride with little or no resistance. Bikes like the Keiser M3, Cycleops Pro 300PT and the new Schwinn A.C. Performance indoor cycle offer “Power” measurements that show how much actual work your are creating, but typical Indoor Cycling Bikes offer nothing.
So what do you do when you are stuck with a room full of Spinner NXTs? Watch the video for a simple method that anyone can use to measure the relative amount of work done in class.
Here is a link to a $45.00 similar Digital Laser Thermometer over at Amazon KINTREX IRT0421 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer with Laser Targeting My thermometer is old and doesn’t seem to be available anymore.
Find a sheet of mailing labels, paint it with a flat spray paint.
IMPORTANT! Check to see where the resistance pad makes contact with the flywheel so it doesn’t remove the lable. New Spinners and LeMonds come down from the top so the label needs to be placed like on the video. Newer Schwinn bikes & Johnny G bikes the pads grip from each side so the label goes on the outer face.

Video options for your Indoor Cycling class get better every day. In this episode I interview Allen Jones, creator of the epicRIDES series of virtual ride training videos. Allen’s videos include a “dashboard” with helpful information about training zones, grade, ride profile, elapse time and where you are on the ride. Check out this sample video.

Minneapolis was the last stop on the Global Ride Tour. It was at Pedal Indoor Cycling Studio a wonderful private studio in NE Minneapolis. The studio’s owner Maryjo Hackett made everything work on short notice.
I had a chance to sit down and hear from Spinning Instructor Gene Nacey about his two week, 9,500 mile road show. Gene was telling me that he has been editing and uploading videos to YouTube while they drove between towns. I felt a little competition brewing so I wanted to get this up before he got on the airplane this afternoon.

I met Gene Nacey, the founder of Global Ride, LLC, at the Heart Zones Convention last month. Gene premiered one of his new Virtual Ride DVD’s during an Indoor Cycling Class. What’s unique about these DVD’s is that you can teach to them. I had a chance to talk with Gene during a short break in his “Nationwide Global Ride” promotion tour.

I have never been a fan of bike racing videos in my Indoor Cycling classes. Too distracting. It’s very much like watching a NASCAR race, you feel compelled to watch, waiting for the inevitable crash or some other drama. The creative team of Liz & Jan Hunter, the co-creators of the Bike-O-Vision DVD series, sent me a copy of their latest video to try out in my Spinning class. I liked it and so did the participants. My wife Amy (the senior group fitness instructor in my family) also liked them. Instead of creating a distraction, the pretty scenery you would see while riding these roads on your bike, added a nice atmosphere to the room. Jan and I discuss how they are made and his plans for more videos in the future.

Hi there,
A number of years ago I created a new method of organizing music in to what I call Training Rates. I wanted (needed) to categorize my music (first in Windows Media Player, then in iTunes) in a way that made sense for both my Spinning classes and for running with my iPod. Training Rates are based on cycles per minute – not BPM. This video explains more.
Introduction to Training Rates
I have a complete Step-by-Step series of videos that explain how you can organize your own music, by Training Rates, in iTunes.
The step by step videos are free to members of our community
