Energia Magica – one instructor’s experience teaching this Audio PROfile

I love hearing about your experiences teaching the Audio PROfiles we provide you at ICI/PRO. Here is a 4 minute sample so you have a feel for what I’m talking about.

After I posted the profile, I received this comment from Le, an instructor in Ontario, Canada.

I rode the profile this morning alone; it “took my breath away” literally and spiritually!!!  It’s so exhilarating and I felt so empowered.  Sat a lot, I am feeling my gluts & back of the legs big time.  This kind of pain is good.  LOOOOVE the sufferfest song, Energia Magica, and Preliator.  I could go on forever if the my legs agreed :>)  So now I can share the experience.

Here is my plan:  I will teach it on Wed and come in with two playlists: one is yours if I have both genders; and another I will replace Stranglehold with this “Stones” song if I have ladies only.  (From the Buddha Experience Disc 8, artist: Harvey Summers)

Then after she rode it with her class, she provided me this feedback:

THE SETTING: I got 15 out of 19 bikes.  Introduced the profile: Posted the graph on the wall, told them this is the ride that has only one way up, Intensity is from hard to very hard, the colors relate to the steepness…..

THE COMPLAINT: Interruptly one raised his hand and said: “Le, your hills are mostly up anyway, what is the different between this one and the others?

MY EXPLANATION: When we climbed the other hills you needed me, or my energy to push you up there.  This time, you will learn to tap into all the energies of the surroundings wherever you are riding. And today I am here to describe the surroundings of this journey.  It’s up to you to connect with the nature and reach the summit….Pheww!  They bought it!

THE FACE EXPRESSIONS DURING THE RIDE:
-  At the rock walls, they looked at each other.  I saw the look so I responded: “I read your mind! You must say: “Since when Le plays rock music? Right?”  There come the smiles!  GOOD!  That’s the connection I wanted.  I explained: “I got to be open-minded, variety is the spice of life.  And gentlemen, I play it especially for you as a female instructor, you don’t think I can last with this song, do you?”  More smiles…
-  At the sufferfest, they were really into it, less talking. They wanted to climb: eyes closed, I only had eye contact with whom suffered the most so I have the chance to encourage them with thumb up signal…
- “In to the Mystic”: They really appreciated the water & oxygen refill time.
-  At the last yellow section: they love the deal YOU made—take turn to pace the group up. I said: “everyone of us has a job to do: exchange with your friends the energy you possess, encourage each other the reach the summit together, no one will be left behind… They all nodded with commitment!
-  At the summit, no doubt that they didn’t need me anymore, they really go for it.  The sweatness on their arms, foreheads…the concentration, the determination… When the Preliator finished, you could hear the satisfaction sound from their breathing! I knew your profile was SOLD!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THE COMMENTS

“I really enjoyed it” (she never ride with me before)
“It was a tough one, Le.  But it was worth the try”
“I survived it, I am still alive!”
“I will be back for the second try” (I told them I will do the same for the other day class)
“It was a hard one but good”
“Love your music!” (I am passing on to you, Jenn)
“That was a good one, Le.  I love to climb heavy so this one is right up my ally! (She told me in the change room)
“I felt on my knee a little on the last 15 minutes so I backed off and it went away. I responded: “I am glad you did. Maybe your overloaded the resistance…remembered I asked to keep one stroke/second. No need to go super hard when you couldn’t turn the pedal anymore, then you knees will complain…”

Jenn, Big THANKS to you.  What I got today is YOURS also.

If you have had a chance to ride this profile, or any profile we’ve brought you at ICI, we would love to hear your feedback. Did you find it challenging to do it as written? Did you modify it, or use different songs? Did your students enjoy it? Was it a complete departure for you, something totally different than you normally teach? Did you and your students like it? It’s OK if you didn’t, I can take it! ;-) Feedback is good, I realize not everyone will love everything. Bill Cosby said, “I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody!”

Thank you in advance for all your comments and suggestions.

I am so psyched to put this one to the test on Saturday! I’m going to ride it myself tomorrow morning and hope that I can do it two days in a row. FYI: most of the music (including Aeterna) I found on LegalSounds.com…my new favorite website.

Wow, thanks Kristin for the music tip. I’ll look it up.

Please let me know how it goes! I’ve gotten a few emails from other instructors who have taught it with excellent experiences. I know it’s a challenging one to teach, but that makes it even more special, when you overcome that challenge of teaching something you wondered if you could do. Kinda like that “big mountain” you’re climbing!

Good luck and keep us posted.
