Who is Jennifer Sage?

For the six or so people on the planet who don’t know Jennifer Sage, I thought it would be helpful to post her Indoor Cycling  resume.

keep-it-real-logo1- 12 years as a Master Instructor with Team Spinning International

- Author of Keep It Real In your indoor cycling classes. This very informative 200 page ebook has become the “go to guide” for Indoor Cycling Instructors wanting to teach a Safe and Effective class.

– An exercise science background. Jennifer’s passion for the science behind the pedaling is evident in all her articles, profiles and conference sessions. She is an avid reader of articles, books and blogs by many leaders in the endurance coaching field, with the goal of staying up to date with new concepts; she is determined to find a way to bring these scientific concepts into the indoor cycling realm and to dispel myths.

- Jennifer is the creator of two technical continuing education sessions while with Mad Dogg Athletics & Spinning, Contraindications in Spinning and Cadence, Resistance and Heart Rate. Both these sessions were original conference sessions, and both focused on making indoor cycling not only safer and more effective, but also more realistic to real outdoor cycling. Now they are taught by multiple Master Instructors and are available as a home study course for $70.00!
- Not only interested in the technical aspect of cycling, she is also passionate about the mind-body connection, and excels in motivational cueing and coaching to help students achieve the state known as Flow, where the ordinary becomes extraordinary. She is able to inspire students to become completely in tune with themselves as they ride.
- For the past 18 months, she has authored the premier indoor cycling blog on the internet; with over 7,000 unique hits and views from 79 countries!
- For the past five years, Jennifer has been the #1 draw at WSSC, with the highest total number of attendees of all the presenters.
- She truly has been a maverick and innovator in the IC industry. Over her 10+ years of presenting at WSSC and other conferences, Jennifer was the first to create a WSSC conference session on the following topics relevant to indoor cycling. (Note that she was one of the first presenters to break out of strict Spinning Energy Zone® sessions of the early WSSCs):
o What NOT to do in an indoor cycling class
o Biomechanics and the anatomy of the pedal stroke
o Cadence drills
o Keeping it Real: the relationship between cadence, resistance and intensity
o Criteriums
o Paceline simulation
o Stage race simulations (Tour de France, etc) and how to design Tour de France programs at your facility
o Tempo riding (high-end aerobic, cycling specific)
o Heart Rate pyramid
o A Lactate Threshold Field Test – the same used in the endurance coaching field for both cycling and triathlon.
- Other very popular sessions over the years included the following:
o Moving Mountains – a 2-hr seated climb experiencing the practical application of the concept of Flow in Sports. There aren’t many who could keep their riders seated for two hours and have them love it and come back for more!
o Alpe d’Huez – one rider’s journey from suffering to triumph. Along with Moving Mountains, two of the most inspirational sessions.
o Loop de Loop – a mountain bike loop simulation. Considered a top profile from just about every instructor that adds this one to his/her repertoire.
o The Triple Threat – three types of HIT intervals and their physiological adaptations. Not all intervals are created equal!
o How Big is Your Why? – Jennifer asks you to dig deep inside to find your most compelling reason for doing what you’re doing. What are your goals and why?
o Spinning as Dynamic Meditation – an early hit at WSSC, this session became the formation for Jennifer’s commitment and motivation to “pedaling on purpose”. NOTE: All of these sessions will be available to ICI/PRO members as Audio PROfiles in the very near future.

Now you see why ICI/PRO can give you information you can’t get anywhere else. Jennifer is one of the leaders in this industry – we are very lucky to have her with us. Jennifer’s profiles are well thought-out, easy to follow, interesting and fun! They are also “real”, designed to help you improve performance and efficiency.
