Master Instructor Tom Scotto delivers our latest Audio PROfile Climbing Strength Intervals.
PROFILE OVERVIEW
This profile is called Climbing Strength Intervals. It is a simple profile that focuses on four 3- minute climbing intervals designed to test and develop muscular strength. Riders can track their heart rate and/or power during the class to gauge their individual climbing efforts. The beauty of this class is that it takes a simple look at one concept of heart rate and power training and reduces the risk of overwhelming people. This profile can be introduced without any previous training on heart rate or power. It is a simple way to explore and learn.
Here is the PROfile you can print.
Here's your Spotify PRO/Playlist! Deezer. We have made every attempt to replicate the original playlist. In some instances the tracks specified were unavailable in Spotify. When necessary we have substituted individual songs of similar length and tried to maintain the Instructor's intent.

Hello,
Tom, thanks for the profile. I realize that the workout is to be used as a baseline for each rider to learn more about themselves, however I know I will have students asking what is a recovery heart rate goal after each minute. How would you respond to this question?
Thanks,
Pat
what are your suggestions for how best to use this in a class where some riders don’t wear a HRM from feeling left out?
what have you found to be the easiest way of keeping the handout and pens handy for each cyclist to be able to record their numbers?
what about those without a HRM recording their RPE so as to be somewhat involved?
Hello,
Tom, I have taught this class twice and it was quite successful. I changed it to a five hill repeat of six minute climbs. Renee, as far as recording, I created a sheet that required the class to record their heart rates on the climbs every 2 minutes and then on the three minute recovery phases. We would record one minute and two minute heart rate recoveries. We have Star Trac Spin bikes. I gave each participant a clipboard and pen to record their information. We placed the clipboards on the handlebars where the water cages are located. It seemed to work out fine. The class applauded the workout.

thanks pat. that’s what i was thinking would be the easiest option.
Tom,
Some of the music came up as only available from Getty Images – tried to figure out download and they wanted $200 for a song. FYI. Could not find on Itunes/amazon/Emusic/…
Thanks for this profile Tom – I used it in class today and it was great!
Hi Scott would all four climbing efforts be done in the saddle? I don’t see where it cues this? Thanks
