Over the last year I have been trying to take classes from many different instructors in many different facilities. Â I've been doing this to see what kind of profiles other instructors are using and what kind of music they are playing. Â Also, as a Master Educator for Stages Indoor Cycling, I want to see if our eduction is making it's way into these facilities and what we need to emphasize in our trainings.
When it comes to music I have found that most instructors are using mixes that you would hear in dance clubs. Â They are high energy with a strong beat. Â I like these mixes and they work well in most class, but sometimes I like to use Classic Rock songs that have real instruments with sing-a-long lyrics.
In this week's “Power of 3” mix I used some songs that bring me back to my childhood, riding in the car with my parents and hearing them sing along on the old AM radio.

- American Pie by Don Mclean
- Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon

To download the above media on a Mac:
- Right Click on the blue underlined link
- Select “Download Linked File As”
- Select a download location
- Once file is completely downloaded, find it in the location you selected

Dennis, playlists with songs like these are really good choices if the demographics of the class are a match. Most of my “younger” students have NEVER ridden in car and heard their parents sing to the radio because the volume in the earbuds to their iPods/MP3 players was too loud. Guess that’s why these songs are considered “classic rock” huh??
