I was sorely in need of some motivation to train last month. When a few buddies suggested I participate in the Minnesota version of the Warrior Dash I said “sure” without really understanding what I was committing to.
There's certainly risk involved in Warrior Dash, but we take every precaution possible to get you to the finish line safely. There will be paramedics and an ambulance on site in case of an emergency. You enter Warrior Dash at your own risk.
I actually prefer events where my personal safety isn't assured… so this could be fun 🙂
Is anyone else participating in this madness? Or have you done one of these events in the past?
If you'll be there this Saturday, my heat goes off at 4:30. I'll be wearing a white ICI/PRO T-shirt.
The Ultimate Instructor Class Profile contest winner Allison Santoro
Here's the Grand Prize winning entry to our Ultimate Instructor Class Profile Contest from Instructor Allison Santoro!
Profile Description
Today we will test the law of gravity…what goes up, must come down. Whiteface Mountain is a very challenging 8-mile climb up to a castle at the summit of the mountain. As you approach a toll-house at the three-mile mark, you will be mentally preparing for the most challenging part of this ride with 8% to 10% gradients for several miles. As you ascend to the summit, two switchbacks and an ease in grade will provide you with the perfect opportunity to enjoy the rush of powering-through your threshold to the summit. At the summit, you will surrender to gravity…and be rewarded with an exhilarating 10-minute down-hill recovery.
Instructor Profile – Allison Santoro
I became a certified indoor cycling instructor, after spinning for fitness and leisure since the early 1990s.
As a student, I noticed that there were a wide range of teaching practices and styles, and many instructors were quite obviously not qualified to be teaching an indoor cycling class. Frankly, some classes were so bad, it’s a miracle that I still have my knees and back intact.
Anyway, I decided to take my Spinning® certification so that I could establish myself as a knowledgeable instructor that could provide constructive coaching on performance, technique and safety.
I currently teach a lunchtime indoor cycling class at Fitcorp at the Prudential Center in Boston. I also teach the occasional weekend class in New Hampshire, where I live.
I met my husband and best friend Al, over 20 years ago, and we’ve been married for 7 years. We live in New Hampshire on the seacoast, which is about 50 miles north of Boston, where I work.
Funnily enough, it was my husband’s love of cycling that prompted me to buy a road-bike and venture outdoors. I was quickly hooked on cycling outdoors, and before I knew it, Al and I were signing up for century rides, and I even did the Boston to New York aids ride a couple of times.
When I’m not cycling, instructing, or working, I like all things outdoors — especially golf. I started playing golf a couple of years ago, and like cycling, I was immediately hooked. Allison@AllAboutAlly.com
Congratulations Allison – your class profile is truly the Ultimate!
Note: We'll be running this contest again, between September 15th and ending on October 31st. I've already secured a number of fabulous prizes (think: teaching somewhere warm) so you may want to start thinking about what you will submitting this Fall 🙂
There is the option to Sync All but be careful if you have a lot of playlist. Tick each playlist you wish to sync.
Comments: Hi John- I have scoured the entire ICI website and can't find anything to help me with the following:
1. It doesn't look like Spotify is syncing in some way with my droid2 phone. I have the app open on my phone before I open the software on my iMac. I updated a playlist on my iMac, and it didn't update the list on my phone. SO… I figured out how to download the songs directly to my phone. That led me to problem #2
2. when I add the songs to a playlist directly on my phone, it puts them at the end, and I can't find a way of moving them around (maybe this is too much for spotify)
So… I thought maybe I should delete the playlist from my phone, and if I log in to Spotify again, maybe it would sync up again, but I'm afraid of doing this and losing my playlist on my phone (since I have this playlist to play offline and it took quite a while to sync).
Is there a command/button on spotify to ask it to sync up again, and should it update anything on my phone that I updated on my iMac?
Also, is there a way of selecting only certain playlists to go to my phone, versus all of them?
Thanks so much for your help!!!!!
My response:
Interesting how I do things the opposite; I have a PC and use an iPhone – but I think everything is the same.
Yes you can select which playlists will sync to you Droid – the trick is finding where you do it 🙂
Open Spotify in both your Mac and Droid – both need to be connected to the same Wireless system
You should see your Droid listed in the left hand column under devices.
Click on your Droid listing and you will see a list of all your playlists
Tick the box for the playlists you want to sync
You will still need to set each playlist to “Available off line” on your device.
I've attached a screen shot that show this.
You can reorder songs on your device by clicking the “pencil” icon and then dragging them by using the three horizontal icon on the right – but I haven't had good success with it. Better to reorder them on your Mac.
Does that help?
John-
Thanks a million!!!!! Truly! You have saved my sanity and allowed me to work with all the playlists I have put into spotify and onto my phone. Thank you!!!!
I've been doing a lot of “Shazam-ing” lately; in my car (safely), during a movie (now I don't have to wait for the credits) and just the other day at a friends office. I was walking down the hall and there was a very familiar tune playing over the Muzak system. Familiar… and yet not – something told me I knew the song, but I couldn't bring the name or artist into focus.
Does that ever happen to you?
Of course I'd left my iPhone in the car. I ran out and back just in time for Shazam to tell me who it was – Robyn doing a cover of Cobrastyle. I clicked the iTunes sample and as I listened to it, why I couldn't place it became obvious – I could understand the words 🙂
I've always enjoyed this 90 rpm tune and I have to admit I really liked the movie where I first heard it as well. OK – I'm a closet Jessica Simpson fan and she's got a line of fabulous shoes.
Amy's been neck deep in planning and preparations for our daughter's graduation and upcoming party + everything else she's involved in. Thankfully (or sadly – not sure which) this is our last high school graduation. “Grad Parties” tend to get a bit competitive around here, adding a bunch of additional stress this month.
Now she's discovered that she's falling behind my fundraising efforts for the MS150. Amy and I will be riding together on the “Bus” (our tandem) this weekend.
I'm sure she would appreciate any help you can provide in meeting her fundraising goal.
