Increased traffic to Indoor Cycle Instructor website

I was talking with one of my Thursday night regulars who's aware of our efforts here at ICI/PRO. He manages the website for the company where he works and we're always trading ideas for improving our sites. He asked me a question that I should have known off the top of my head, but I sheepishly had to tell him that I hadn't checked my traffic stats in quite a while.

So this morning I logged into my Google Analytics account for indoorcycleinstructor.com and got a pleasant supprise… for the period between January 1st and August 31st, the total number of people visiting here are up 28.81% 🙂

After being online for over 5 years, it amazes me that over this time period ~30% of visitors are finding us for the first time.

About 40% of you are Mac users (maybe I should switch?)

I see a huge 72% increase in Chrome users @ 25% of total users

There are still way too many Instructors using IE / Internet Explorer, but thankfully the number is down 13% from last year.

If you ever have have trouble downloading PDFs, Free Music Friday MP3s, open a Spotify / Deezer playlist from a link or most any other issues here or anywhere else online, 99% of the time it's due to using Internet Explorer.  Stop the madness! Click here to download Google Chrome – it's free and it's wonderful.

And while they're here, they're consuming more of our educational information.

That's awesome – I really appreciate you stopping by and it makes me smile to know that we're able to help so many Instructors!

New iPhone IOS 7.0 Update

Best I can tell, the majority of visitors here are iPhone users. Apple recently released a major update to the software that powers your iPhone; IOS 7.0

Word of caution. The update process takes a long time – like hours for some. I'm not sure how long mine took. One of my kids warned me, so I left it alone for a few hours and came back to the friendly “Hello” screen that rotates through a bunch of languages.

I'm not sure if I like the design. It's probably the change thing, that's keeping me from being very excited about it.

Apple's saying there's over a hundred improvements? The one improvement I am excited about is the adoption of the new Dynamic Type feature that will adjust the Text Size automatically in Apps that support this functionality. I updated Spotify and they still have those tiny numbers for the track length timer 🙁

Hopefully that will change in the future?

ICI Podcast 278 – SpinPower Instructor Training First Report

Dennis Mellon

Now that StarTrac is shipping Spinner® Blade Ion Indoor Cycles with Power, there's a bunch of Instructors who need to be educated on how to effectively use this new training “tool” in their classes.

Spinning's new education program is called the SpinPowerâ„¢ program. It was developed by well known Power Training expert Angie Sturtevant who's the Director of Power-Based Training.

When ICI/PRO member Dennis Mellon told me that his club in Greenwood Village Colorado would be hosting a SpinPower training, I asked if he would be willing to share his experiences with our listeners.

Dennis Mellon is one of those smart, talented people we love to have on the Podcast. Here's his bio…

Dennis Mellon has been working in the Fitness Industry since 1992. He's a Certified Personal Trainer/Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as well as being a certified Spinning, Energy Zone and Indo-Row Instructor. He has a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education and a Minor in Coaching from the State University of New York College at Cortland. He spends most of his time at Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club in Greenwood Village Colorado where he is a Personal Trainer, Masters Swim Team Coach, Indoor Cycling and CardioVascular Intervals instructor. ICI/PRO Podcast 277 – Just The Ride I Needed Audio Class Profile

K studio photo

Spinning® Instructor and Zoning Specialist Kay Mamo presents our latest class profile; Just The Ride I Needed.

I’m a personal trainer (ISSA) and group exercise instructor.  I’m certified to teach more than a half dozen indoor cycling methodologies as well as certified to teach Heart Zones® and the new 3-zone system, ZONING â„¢  fitness, created by Sally Edwards.

I’ve found that introducing my riders to ZONING and offering the use of BLINK heart rate monitors, provided by our facility (purchased from ZONING fitness), simplifies tracking the intensity of a workout.  The Blink monitors have LED lights that flash BLUE, YELLOW or RED.  In a class, we can run through a couple of easy field tests and determine how to set each person’s 3 zones.  The Blue zone intensity is a heart rate that is below T1 (The first ventilatory threshold).    The Yellow zone is the range of heart rates between T1 and T2 (The second ventilatory threshold).  The Red zone is above T2. Details can be found at www.ZONINGfitess.com.

ICI/PRO Podcast 276 – Successfully sell your new class or programming idea to management!

Kay Mamo Zoning Specialist

If you're anything like me, good ideas are easy to come by – especially when it comes to “ideas” about how to improve my class, changes (desperately) needed at our studio and new formats / programming we should be introducing as new classes.

But unfortunately many of those fabulous ideas of mine are never realized… and it's typically my fault.

Why?

Because I hadn't invested the effort to really think through everything and then formally present my “idea” as an actual “plan” to management. In the past I've figured that my “idea” was so good, that I could just throw it at my Dept Head and she'd run with it. Doesn't work that way.

The person you report to (Manager/Dept Head/Owner) also has a boss, or at the very least a partner. They need to be well armed with the details of your plan, before they will even consider discussing your “idea” with upper management.

ICI/PRO member and Zoning Specialist Kay Mamo successfully worked through this process and was rewarded with her very-own new class on the schedule. Kay and I discuss the steps she took in this episode of the Indoor Cycle Instructor Podcast.

Kay has provided a template you can use to bring detail to your idea. You can download it here. NOTE: Kay's plan is specific to the introduction of a Boot Camp that include a Zoning 30 minute cardio session. Feel free to change it up to reflect your dream class 🙂

You can learn more about Kay over at ZoningFitness.com
