Depending on which source you use, the definition of persistence is; noun \pər-ˈsis-tən(t)s, -ˈzis-\ perseverance in spite of fatigue or frustration or it could be; the act or fact of persisting. Either way it defines what it took to finally corral an interview with anyone connected with the RealRyder organization.
Well they say good things come to those who wait (or persevere in my case – I've been trying for over two years) so it's with great pleasure that I can provide you this interview with RealRyder's Director of Education Douglas Brooks:)
Douglas is a very interesting guy and he has a lot to offer, so I broke his interview up into two parts.
In part 1 we discuss how he got connected with RealRyder, a funny story about him and Johnny G and the three key benefits he feels RealRyder has over “stationary” Indoor Cycles.
In part two we discuss his method of creating a story/profile based on their unique system – planning to have it out late this week.
As an experiment I'm trying out a Sound Cloud HTML5 player for all of you iPad users.
So you've got a room full of brand new indoor cycles with Power. Now what?
How do you effectively introduce the concept of adding measurement (Power/Speed/Distance) to a class that has been taught without metrics for 15+ years?
And do so in a way that doesn't overwhelm the participants?
Or you (the Instructor) for that matter?
I posed the question to Jay Blahnik, Master Trainer with Schwinn Indoor Cycling. Jay joins me to discuss a number of steps you can follow to successfully introduce measurement in your classes.
ICI/PRO members can access Part 2 here, where Jay breaks down how to communicate with the three groups of people (participants and Instructors) you will likely encounter and how to address their specific needs/concerns.
If you watched the free screening of the documentary; I'm Fine, Thanks, you met Steve Kamb. Steve's journey really spoke to me. He went from thinking; my dad's in sales, my mom's in sales, so I should go into sales… to I hate sales. I'm going to do something I'm passionate about (fitness and being a Nerd) > which lead to nerdfitness.com
Hi. My name is Steve.
I’m the rebel leader here at Nerd Fitness. I help desk jockeys, nerds, and average Joes level up their lives.
Maybe you’re here because you’re overweight and frustrated because you haven’t found success quite yet. Maybe you’re here because your doctor told you that you’re in danger of some serious health issues if you don’t make changes. Maybe you’re here because you just had a kid, and the reality that you being unhealthy could make THEIR lives more difficult just hit you like a ton of bricks.
Maybe you just want to wake up, look in the mirror, and feel better about yourself.
Whatever reason you have for being here, thank you.
My goal is to inspire the Hell out of you to make positive changes and live a better life. I want to educate you on how to work out properly, cook a decent meal, and consistently improve your health and well being.
The tagline for this site is “Level up your life, every single day.” If I do my job right, you’ll wake up every day a little healthier than you were yesterday — eat a little better, get a little stronger, run a little faster, and feel a little better about yourself.
This is the view from the Cycling Studio at Couples Tower Isle in Jamaica! It's one of 65 tropical resorts where our Grand Prize Winner can spend a romantic week 🙂

To help our PRO members get excited about entering and creating their own ultimate class profile, I invited Krista Leopold – of Welcome to the Jungle Audio PROfile fame – to help us learn how she creates:
Unforgettable Rides: 3 Steps to Creating the Ultimate Instructor Class Profile that Riders Remember
Many of us already do things like plan for holidays or use events to theme our rides, such as the Tour de France or the Olympics. But you don't have to wait for something on the calendar to impact your students. Today, we are going to take a basic profile and give it a makeover. In the end we will be left with something that makes our students say “WOW. That was incredible!” My goal is to provide you with a game plan to bring some bling to your old profiles. I am going to walk you through the steps I take to transform a basic profile into an experience your riders will want more of!
Keith Burnage from IndoorCyclingMusic.com joins me to discuss solving the problem using MixMeister Express with the new Mac Mountain Lion OS.
We are also using this Podcast to announce that IndoorCyclingMusic.com is now offering custom mixed playlists created specifically for our Audio PROfiles.
We realize that many of you have neither the time or interest needed to create seamless class music… but would still enjoy teaching with mixed music.
Also Spotify isn't available where many of our International ICI/PRO members teach and call home, so it's not an option.
This new service is very inexpensive and maybe just what you are looking for if time is the one thing you have too little of 🙂
Darcie and Brenda at the first ICI/PRO conference.
Meet ICI/PRO members Brenda McCullen-Moeske and Darcie Adams!
Together they are launching RealRyder in Motion, an Indoor Cycling Studio located in Albany, New York.
When they told me of their plans, and how their initial motivation came from participating in our past conferences, I asked (and they agreed) to be guests on the Podcast. I really wanted them to share their experiences leading up to the opening of their new studio, before they became consumed with the operations of the new business.
Listen below as they tell their story and if you're anywhere near Albany, be sure to stop by and take a class 🙂
