ICI/PRO Podcast #179 – The Concept Behind Saturday with Stages BIG RIDE

Listen as Cameron Chinatti explains:

The hidden agenda…
Transitioning participants towards a Power-â€focused class can be difficult to implement without their buy-â€in and understanding. Use this ride as an example of how to incorporate Power specific concepts without the need to get on the soap-â€box and shout the benefits of Power training from the roof-â€tops…. In other words, you can sneak it in…ssshhhh!

This PRO Podcast is intended to be used in conjunction with the BIG RIDE video of this complete class which you can find here.

Free Music Friday for 10/7

Free Spinning Class Music from ICI/PRO
I love a good long tune and today’s Free Music Friday Favorite is 7minutes long. It has a “dream pop” type vibe to it, but don’t let that throw you off, because I have found it to be very useful in discovering either T1, or T2. The Verve is certainly
not a new (or still intact) band, but “The Rolling People”, from their Urban Hymns CD is a great 81 bpm tune with good coaching breakout time at 2:30-3:15. The first two minutes I ask my class to start adding load s-l-o-w-l-y. At 2:30, I explain either T1 or T2 (whichever we are discovering) and then we HIT IT! It works well, because we still have plenty of time left to find our threshold. Here is The Verve and “The Rolling People”, circa 1997:

For your free track I wasn't able to find a remix of The Rolling People, but I was able to find another song from The Verve that would make for a focused 72 rpm climb; Appalachian Springs. Listen all the way through and you will find a built in recovery at the 5:50 point of this 7:34 tune.

ICI Podcast 178 It Was Like Presenting at Indoor Cycling Graduate School

Next year should include Caps and Gowns

Between sessions last weekend Master Instructor Cameron Chinatti took me aside and told me how impressed she was with the quality of Instructors at the conference. Wanting for you to hear it first hand, I invited Cameron back for a post conference interview for the latest episode of the ICI Podcast.

We also discussed Cameron's BIG RIDE where she had everyone working together as teams of 4 on the new FreeMotion S11.9 Indoor Cycles with Power.

The one hour video of the Saturday night BIG RIDE is now available for you at this link.

Coming to ICI/PRO Members Oct 10th – Cameron and I recorded a special PRO Podcast where she explains how she uses this format to introduce Power in a fun and inviting setting.

ICI/PRO members will be able to download Cameron's complete PROfile.pdf so you can introduce this class to your club or studio as early as next week.

These specially designed gear bags were a big hit

Indoor Cycle Instructor Gear Bag

Amy suggested that we have something special for all of the returning Instructors this year and I completely agreed… but what?

I though it would be nice if we could provide something that would communicate the professionalism of the Indoor Cycling Instructors who attended both of our conferences. I had 100 of these very nice ICI/PRO Instructor Gear Bags made and we gave them as our heart felt gift to everyone who participated last year. It's a good thing we brought extra as we quickly sold another 35 of them to first time attendees.

If you would like to tell the world you are an ICI/PRO Instructor I still have a limited number available.

The dimensions are H 11″ x W 12.5″ x L 18.25″ and the bag includes a nice ventilated side pocket for your shoes or your wet clothes. We sold then at the conference for $40.00 and for only $9.00  USPS will deliver one to your home or office in the USA.

Here's the link to purchase your very own ICI/PRO Instructor Gear Bag. Sorry – sold out.

Free Music Friday for 9/30

Me with Barbara Hoots at the conference this morning

What???? Did you think I forgot you? Never! Greetings from the ICI/PRO Conference in Boston! I truly wish you were all here. Today’s Friday Favorite is by an artist that my daughter Carly introduced me to. I have used her quite often in my class line ups. You may recognize her voice from the theme song of “Shrek 2”. London’s Imogen Heap is musically unique and diverse. “Headlock” from her Speak for Yourself CD makes for a fabulous out of the saddle climb at 60 bpm.
It starts out with her voice and electronics only, but a strong beat. At 1:15, the drums KICK and it makes for great coaching. She pulls back again at 1:45 and the drum kick happens again at 2:20 for another coaching opportunity. I love these times to really encourage my class to “trust their legs” (gotta credit John with this phrase) and go for it. The song is 3:37…I only wish it was longer.

Here is Imogen Heap and “Headlock”

Keiser shipping us 51 M3s

adjustable keiser m3 handlebars

Our friends from Keiser had originally agreed to provide 50 Keiser M3's for participants to ride this weekend. They are also sending us one of the new M3's with the Fore/Aft adjustable handlebars! For many of us the reach to the bars is a bit short on the M3. I have this post that includes a video and additional details about the new design.

I'll let you know what comments I hear this weekend and watch the free feed for some random interviews.
