Sports Psychologist Dr. KC Wilder to present at the conference!

This is exciting!

Sports Psychologist (and ICI/PRO Member) Dr. KC Wilder was planning to attend this year’s ICI/PRO conference. She offered (and I accepted of course) to teach one of her signature rides on Saturday October 1st.

Tour de You (Ride)

Special guest Instructor Dr. K C Wilder will take you on her Swirling Circles of Freedom ride where she will teach you how to help your students transfer their stress and frustrations into the bike.

Dr. Wilder was my guest on Podcast # 166 Click Here to Listen where she described how she teaches this class and the effect it has on her students.

Early Bird Registration to this year’s ICI/PRO Conference ends Sep 15th so hurry and save $50.00 when you claim your seat.

ICI/PRO Podcast #172 – Tabata Power Play Audio PROfile

Doug Rusho – 2010 Instructor of the year – is back with another Audio PROfile for our ICI/PRO members to enjoy.

PROfile Objective:

Tabata Power Play is designed to allow anyone to experience the incredible world of power training without prior FTP testing and subsequent power zone calculations.  It is certainly not the ideal way to use power; however it is an effective method to introduce the concept, advantages, and the experience of riding with power.

This profile is considered high intensity, which may seem odd since it is an “introduction” to power, but in reality the application of power feedback is most useful for shorter, work interval lengths.  It will also turn light bulbs on for your students, and they will get very excited about taking power training to the next level, including formal FTP testing and personal power zones.  For this ride you can leave your HR monitor at home, due to the short work intervals.  Allow your students to focus on one thing, watts.

Free Spinning Class Music from ICI/PRO
This Journey song was already a bit over the top in the 70’s, but this particular cover just cracks me up.  I used it in my Monday morning class as comic relief (and physical relief) after a 20 minute AT climb.  I have been teaching this time slot for years, so the class and I know each other well.   As we were recovering, I said, “for recovery back to T1 (low zone 3) and a good laugh, here is the cast of Glee with their version of “Don’t Stop Believin’”.  Oh goodness…talk about over orchestrated and over sung.  But good for a few laughs just the same.  You know how sometimes something is so bad; it almost swings the pendulum to good?  The tune is 3:19 and 68 bpm, so we took our climb workload back down towards T1 and laughed and talked amongst ourselves- just for 3:19!

Kind of a bonding moment.  Hope you enjoy it and get a good chuckle.  I found this little gem on the Grammy Nominees 2011 CD.  Next week it’s back to serious business. J

ICI/PRO Podcast #170 – Fusion Training Audio PROfile from Gene Nacey

Gene Nacey from Cycling Fusion provides our latest Audio PROfile and it was created using his new Class Builder iPhone App.

Class Overview
This class was first held during the final week of a 12 week Winter Training workshop that emphasized and reminded riders that “What you do inside, can also be done outside”. In other words, as the weather was turning, and they were getting ready to do some outdoor riding, we wanted to show them how similar the training can be in both environments. While this was a little more intense than an early season ride should be, their prior 12 weeks gave the students a good foundation in going into this, and now it makes a great mid-summer workout as well. Notice the zone splits for the class. The intensity should bode well for those entering their performance peak.

Skip your computer – downloading PRO/Playlists directly to your iPhone or Droid

In this post about transferring Spotify music and PRO/Playlists to your iPod – Droid or other wireless enabled device, I explained that there is no other option to move music from Spotify, other than through a shared wireless connection. Your USB cord won't work with Spotify – except to move your existing music to a conventional iPod.

The flaw in all this is assuming that everyone has a shared wireless network to work from… but what if you don't?

Skip your computer completely and download PRO/Playlists directly to your device is actually very easy for ICI/PRO members with a Spotify Premium account 🙂

Here's what to do:

  1. Open your Internet browser on your device
  2. Go to www.indoorcycleinstructor.com and log-in to your PRO member account.
  3. In the top navigation go to Instructor Training > Audio PROfiles and you will see the list of all the available PROfiles.
  4. Open the Audio PROfiles of your choice and scroll down and click the link “Here's your Spotify PRO/Playlist”
  5. It will open a page asking “Already have Spotify?” which you will tap.
  6. Spotify will open the PRO/Playlist and you can stream it instantly.
  7. I suggest you toggle the “Available Offline” slider to “YES” and wait until each track is downloaded before using it in your class.

Here's where you can find a listing of all my posts about iTunes and Spotify training.

Free Music Friday 8/19

Taking a break from my fight with Agent Smith (from the Matrix), I thought I would post my Free Music Friday track. It actually comes courtesy of ICI/PRO member Marc Schlosberg who shared it as part of a Spotify Playlist.

English singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding's song Lights is a fantastic 70 RPM climb all on it's own. But Marc and I aren't the only one's who like it. There are (9) remixes of Lights available on Spotify 🙂

And here is another remix of Lights for your free track. Click the little down arrow on the right edge of the player to download.
