This is the companion Audio PROfile for the Epic Planet DVD Epic Wine Country. You can use it as the basis for an exciting and entertaining class. It features a 20 minute endurance section where you can conduct a T1 Aerobic Threshold assessment and pre-fatigue everyone’s legs, during the flats, before heading into the hills. The 25 minute mark signals the start of 2 major climbs of 9:22 and 10:56 with very little recovery in between. The key to your student’s success on these long climbs is to balance the work between their cardiovascular and muscular systems. To do so, we want to encourage everyone to keep their cadence up above 70 RPM for the entire class.

Master Instructor Tom Scotto delivers our latest Audio PROfile Climbing Strength Intervals. PROFILE OVERVIEW
This profile is called Climbing Strength Intervals. It is a simple profile that focuses on four 3- minute climbing intervals designed to test and develop muscular strength. Riders can track their heart rate and/or power during the class to gauge their individual climbing efforts. The beauty of this class is that it takes a simple look at one concept of heart rate and power training and reduces the risk of overwhelming people. This profile can be introduced without any previous training on heart rate or power. It is a simple way to explore and learn.

Adirondack Climbs profile is loosely based on a series of hikes through the beautiful Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York. There are 46 peaks that make up the Adirondack High Peaks, and some folks take on the challenge of hiking all 46 of them. This ride is based on one of the smaller scale challenges, which involves six of the peaks and is named the Saranac Lake 6er —for the 6 Adirondack mountains that surround beautiful Saranac Lake.
This is a great ride if you do a lot of visualization with your classes. Take your class to the top of each peak and describe the beautiful landscape along the way. Describing what the view will be like when they reach the summit will motivate riders to reach the top.
This video has additional information you can use to add more flavor to your profile.

Come and ride the culmination of 3 days of training in the French alps by knocking down a climbers dream. Four distinct climbs, with the two finishers on the exact road ridden by the Tour de France just 2 days after this DVD was filmed on the Columbiere.
OBJECTIVE AND INTENSITY
The focus and objective of this ride is to still have something left in our legs and body to ride strong on the last climb up the Col de la Columbiere. Consistent with the preceding climb up the Col des Aravis, our goal will be to both manage our ability to ride in Zone 3 (75-80%) and Zone 4 (80-90%) and develop and test our muscular endurance.
Tom's recommendation is to use the music included with the DVD.

Each of us can be our own worst critic! Listening to myself teach a class was a very eye opening (our should I say ear opening) experience for me.
This week is all about How You Sound.
I used my iPhone to record my class yesterday and encourage you to do the same to gain an understanding of How You Sound. Please feel free to critique what you hear in my class presentation. My hope is that it will motivate you to record your own class and then listen to the recording and learn How You Sound to your students.
As I listened to the recording it was obvious from my breathing that I'm working hard, along with the class. This has been my practice for a long time, but as I hear myself it has me questioning if I'm working a little harder than I should.
What do you think?
The standard recorder in an iPhone will only record for 30 minutes. This free App Quick Voice Recorder will record longer.
I'll try to have an Android solution for recording as soon as my daughter Carly wakes up and shows me on her phone 🙂
