Our mission here at ICI/PRO, is to act as a platform to elevate talented people in a way that benefits both them and our members.
We have a number* of new contributors climbing on and joining the ICI/PRO team this Fall.
Let's start by introducing you to Instructor Christine Hawthorne!
I met Chris Chrispins over at Pedal-On… or better put, I discovered Chris by followed a link to her website – chrispins1.wordpress.com and then proceeded to steal a bunch of her music suggestions and use them in my classes 🙂
Pretty soon I was trading emails with Chris and then had the privileged to talk with her about the possibility of joining our team. Beyond Instructing she's a Kindergarten teacher, wife and mother of two boys!
There's a real magic to organizing music in a way that will communicate your passion, while engaging your students. If you are on Spotify you can experience Chris' talents – and understand why I'm so excited to have her on board.
ICI/PRO members can look forward to Chris' first post this week about her earlier experiences with using the Spotify Premium version with her iPhone App.
*Legend to John speak: I tend to use; “a couple” when I mean two, “a few” to describe 3 and “a number” when there's four or more.

Crossfade to your heart's content!
I love Spotify Premium. I play my class music in every class using my iPhone and a Bluetooth receiver.
But there's something wrong with everything and what I feel is wrong with Spotify is:
- It isn't available everywhere on the planet
- Playlists don't show an accurate total length, over one hour.
No crossfade option using your portable device – iPhone or Droid for gapless playback.
I just discovered that there is now a crossfade option on my iPhone 🙂
Open Spotify > Options and use the slider to set the crossfade. I've played around and found 6 secs seems to work well.
Now if we can get those other two problems fixed…

If you have had the privilege of working with Barbara Hoots you understand there's no “half-way” with anything she does. Barbara is only interested in perfection and lives by the adage: Go big or Go Home. So the new Top Indoor Cycling Songs from 2011 list is approaching 400 tracks!
We will be sending the new list (complete with iTunes links) to everyone on our email lists. Not a subscriber to our weekly email newsletter? Join for free here.
ICI/PRO members will get exclusive access to the complete Spotify playlist.
Even if you don't use Spotify to deliver you class music, I strongly suggest getting a free Spotify subscription. You simply can't beat Spotify for sampling and discovering new tracks + unlike iTunes, Spotify let's you play the entire song so you can fully understand if each track is exactly what you need for that perfect playlist 🙂
* Complete as in every song on the list that is also available in Spotify.

ICI/PRO member Joanne asks:
I did get the link to download onto my iPod…..and the damn thing downloaded all my songs on my computer, so I now have all my playlists on the iPod, which is now totally maxed. It seems like whenever I plug in, I automatically hook up to both itunes and Spotify, so there is no room for the nice new ICPRO playlists…
I see a number of questions here so let me start with what I found initially confusing about Spotify:
1) There is a distinct difference, as it relates to Spotify, between an iPod and an iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad. Spotify's service is only available on devices with wireless Internet access. Conventional iPods do not offer wireless so they will not work with Spotify. Here is a list of supported devices.
Where I got confused is if you click on the devices tab in Spotify it shows an option to connect your iPod.

I wish they didn't even show this option. This function will only replicate what iTunes does and will only transfer the existing music you have on your computer. It cannot transfer PRO/Playlists or other music from Spotify to your iPod.
2) The second part of this question goes to a setting in Spotify that decides what music is synced to your wireless device.
- Connected your device to the same wireless network as your computer.
- Open Spotify on your computer.
- Open the Spotify App on your device – it took me two days to figure out I needed to do this 🙁
- You should see your device listed like this:

Click on your devises listing and you will see the option to select Sync all music or Manually Sync. You want to select Manual (there isn't any Save button)
Now you can select which tracks or playlists you would like to copy to your device.
I'm here to help you 🙂

One last thing so I'm clear; Spotify music & PRO/Playlists will only transfer between your computer and device through a wireless connection. There is no other option to connect your device – the USB cord will not work – you must be connected to a wireless network.
