Righty – Tighten… Lefty – Loosen, unless you're down under when it's the other'way'round > I think

Pick a word.
Any word.
And type it into the search box in Spotify… hit play and listen to the results.
You may be pleasantly surprised like I was.

Let me go back a few seconds…
I had clicked on a video and loved the sound track.

So grabbed my iPhone and Shazamed it.

The response was Loosen up your tie but it wasn't available in Spotify.
And it wasn't in YouTube.

But the Artist – Barrie Gledden has a bunch in Spotify and iTunes.

So I tried just Loosen…
And discovered a bunch of new music 🙂

Lissie — Loosen the Knot

The Ugly Club — Loosen Up

Winger — Loosen Up

Kraak & Smaak — Loosen Up Children

The Little Kicks — Loosen Up

ilyAIMY — Loosen – this one is very intense/frantic – can't decide which 🙂

NY Loose — Loosen Up – Blondi-ish

Frequency — Loosen Up – 70's

Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins — Loosen Up – hit me over the head with something hard and smile while you do it.

I never did find what I had been looking for, but this isn't hard on your ears.

One of three missing pieces has been added to Spotify

Crossfade to your heart's content!

I love Spotify Premium. I play my class music in every class using my iPhone and a Bluetooth receiver.

But there's something wrong with everything and what I feel is wrong with Spotify is:

  • It isn't available everywhere on the planet
  • Playlists don't show an accurate total length, over one hour.
  • No crossfade option using your portable device – iPhone or Droid for gapless playback.

I just discovered that there is now a crossfade option on my iPhone 🙂

Open Spotify > Options and use the slider to set the crossfade. I've played around and found 6 secs seems to work well.

Now if we can get those other two problems fixed…

Tech Tuesday – Member Questions Answered

Help with spotify

There is the option to Sync All but be careful if you have a lot of playlist. Tick each playlist you wish to sync.

Comments: Hi John-
I have scoured the entire ICI website and can't find anything to help me with the following:

1. It doesn't look like Spotify is syncing in some way with my droid2 phone. I have the app open on my phone before I open the software on my iMac. I updated a playlist on my iMac, and it didn't update the list on my phone. SO… I figured out how to download the songs directly to my phone. That led me to problem #2

2. when I add the songs to a playlist directly on my phone, it puts them at the end, and I can't find a way of moving them around (maybe this is too much for spotify)

So… I thought maybe I should delete the playlist from my phone, and if I log in to Spotify again, maybe it would sync up again, but I'm afraid of doing this and losing my playlist on my phone (since I have this playlist to play offline and it took quite a while to sync).

Is there a command/button on spotify to ask it to sync up again, and should it update anything on my phone that I updated on my iMac?

Also, is there a way of selecting only certain playlists to go to my phone, versus all of them?

Thanks so much for your help!!!!!

My response:

Interesting how I do things the opposite; I have a PC and use an iPhone – but I think everything is the same.

Yes you can select which playlists will sync to you Droid – the trick is finding where you do it 🙂

  1. Open Spotify in both your Mac and Droid – both need to be connected to the same Wireless system
  2. You should see your Droid listed in the left hand column under devices.
  3. Click on your Droid listing and you will see a list of all your playlists
  4. Tick the box for the playlists you want to sync
  5. You will still need to set each playlist to “Available off line” on your device.

I've attached a screen shot that show this.

You can reorder songs on your device by clicking the “pencil” icon and then dragging them by using the three horizontal icon on the right – but I haven't had good success with it. Better to reorder them on your Mac.

Does that help?

John-

Thanks a million!!!!!  Truly!  You have saved my sanity and allowed me to work with all the playlists I have put into spotify and onto my phone.  Thank you!!!!

If this helped you please Like it on Facebook.

Master Instructors on Spotify

One of Julz Arney's Playlists

Slowly but surely, Spotify is catching on within the Master Instructor community. And with good reason. There isn't any better way to share music playlists.

I'm sure I'm not alone in asking for a playlist at the end of a training – which I'm sure can be a lot of extra work for a MI. Now all they need to say is “friend me on Facebook and you will find my profile in the People section of Spotify.”

Couldn't be easier and adds a touch of self promotion:)

Here's a few that I found with shared playlists:

All you need to do is click the Subscribe link next to the persons name.

Who am I missing?

Send me a friend request if you're an MI using Spotify and I can add you to this list.

Tech Tuesday – Spotify Update

PRO member Marc Schlosberg alerted me to a new feature in Spotify; Gapless playback and adjustable Crossfading for when you play music directly from your computer. No, this doesn't work on your iPhone 🙁

Update – 6/25/2012 crossfade is now an option on your iPhone and I'll assume your Droid has it as well. Open Spotify > Options and slide how long a crossfade you would like.

I'll be checking if it does on a Droid and let you know ASAP.

Here's how to get to it:

  • Open Spotify on your computer
  • Got to Edit > Preferences
  • Scroll down and you will see the new options.

I've been playing around with it and found that a 10 second crossfade works well. Many of us have used this in iTunes as a simple substitute for MixMeister. Now if we could only set the song start and stop time.

Tech Tuesday – Notes from Sunday’s Spotify Training

Right Click > Save As to download to your computer

I sure enjoyed talking with everyone who participated in Sunday's training 🙂

I'll be scheduling the next Spotify LIVE training soon – click here to get on the early notification list.

A number of you were interested in the little Tap to the Beat BPM counter I used when I sample music. Right Click the image to download. This is a very simple tool, tap your Space Bar or Enter Key in time with the music. Click the reset button to clear and start over. It doesn't do anything beyond display the average BPM you are tapping – it won't add the results to the song.

One of the best parts of conducting these live interactions is that I learn more about what is confusing to you – so I can help!

One PRO member asked the question; “when I click the link to one of the PRO Playlists for an Audio PROfile I see it in the main screen of Spotify, but it isn't added to my list of Playlists.

I see now that this is confusing, so here's what you need to do to save a PRO Playlist or a Playlist that was shared with you from another Spotify user.

1) Click the Spotify link included in each Audio PROfile.

2) The link will open a new browser window showing something similar to this;

Clicking the gray button will open the Playlist in Spotify:

Next you will see the new Playlist added to your list 🙂

Alternatively, if someone shares a Playlist directly with you, it will show in your Spotify Inbox
