Free Music Friday for 9/9

This smooth little tune caught my ear while I was riding in the car with my 17 year old one day and I asked her who was singing it, not really thinking she would know. Well, she did and I am glad, because I downloaded it and have been using it as a motivating mid-tempo climb. I’ve been cueing to “ride smoothly, like the music is smooth”. Sometimes I forget to “chill out my moves” and be cool on my bike. It does make a difference in my form when I take the stress out. My class noticed a positive change as well, and as their instructor/coach, I certainly saw a change in how their bodies were moving on the bike.

Sam Sparro’s “Black and Gold”, from his self-titled CD is 4:34 in the studio cut version and 68 bpm. Give it a listen and see if this will bring out your inner “coolness”. Not that your aren’t already super chill!

And this long remix maybe just what you need to set the mood for your next endurance class.

iTunes’ Terms and Conditions

“Dad, that was on an episode of South Park!” was the response from my daughter Carly. We were at lunch and I was telling her about the revelation I had that all of the music services I use are prohibited from commercial use.
It was hilarious, she exclaimed and recited;

“What did the latest terms and conditions say”
“I don't know… I didn't read them.”
“YOU didn't read them?”

“Yea, that's part of the story of how Steve Jobs had Kyle kidnapped per the terms of the iTunes T's & C's to be part of his evil plan.”
I personally don't watch South Park, but you may appreciate the humor of the situation in the video clip.

Free Spinning Class Music from ICI/PRO
This young band from Charlottesville, Virginia has a great sound. They are touring with Michelle Branch and the Goo Goo Dolls this summer and we will hear a lot more from them in the future. I first heard this tune on XM radio and felt a flat jammin’ road needing to happen. Parachute’s “Something to Believe In” from there The Way It Was CD is 4:44 of pure 86 rpm motivating goodness. It has a great bass line (it makes me once again wish I played the bass) and a few nice sax rips as well. I am currently using this in as a break from climbing in the middle of my ride, holding a zone 3 flat rode workout. Enjoy!

Nothing available from Parachute, but how about this for your free track?

Free Spinning Class Music from ICI/PRO
This Journey song was already a bit over the top in the 70’s, but this particular cover just cracks me up.  I used it in my Monday morning class as comic relief (and physical relief) after a 20 minute AT climb.  I have been teaching this time slot for years, so the class and I know each other well.   As we were recovering, I said, “for recovery back to T1 (low zone 3) and a good laugh, here is the cast of Glee with their version of “Don’t Stop Believin’”.  Oh goodness…talk about over orchestrated and over sung.  But good for a few laughs just the same.  You know how sometimes something is so bad; it almost swings the pendulum to good?  The tune is 3:19 and 68 bpm, so we took our climb workload back down towards T1 and laughed and talked amongst ourselves- just for 3:19!

Kind of a bonding moment.  Hope you enjoy it and get a good chuckle.  I found this little gem on the Grammy Nominees 2011 CD.  Next week it’s back to serious business. J

Skip your computer – downloading PRO/Playlists directly to your iPhone or Droid

In this post about transferring Spotify music and PRO/Playlists to your iPod – Droid or other wireless enabled device, I explained that there is no other option to move music from Spotify, other than through a shared wireless connection. Your USB cord won't work with Spotify – except to move your existing music to a conventional iPod.

The flaw in all this is assuming that everyone has a shared wireless network to work from… but what if you don't?

Skip your computer completely and download PRO/Playlists directly to your device is actually very easy for ICI/PRO members with a Spotify Premium account 🙂

Here's what to do:

  1. Open your Internet browser on your device
  2. Go to www.indoorcycleinstructor.com and log-in to your PRO member account.
  3. In the top navigation go to Instructor Training > Audio PROfiles and you will see the list of all the available PROfiles.
  4. Open the Audio PROfiles of your choice and scroll down and click the link “Here's your Spotify PRO/Playlist”
  5. It will open a page asking “Already have Spotify?” which you will tap.
  6. Spotify will open the PRO/Playlist and you can stream it instantly.
  7. I suggest you toggle the “Available Offline” slider to “YES” and wait until each track is downloaded before using it in your class.

Here's where you can find a listing of all my posts about iTunes and Spotify training.

Free Music Friday 8/19

Taking a break from my fight with Agent Smith (from the Matrix), I thought I would post my Free Music Friday track. It actually comes courtesy of ICI/PRO member Marc Schlosberg who shared it as part of a Spotify Playlist.

English singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding's song Lights is a fantastic 70 RPM climb all on it's own. But Marc and I aren't the only one's who like it. There are (9) remixes of Lights available on Spotify 🙂

And here is another remix of Lights for your free track. Click the little down arrow on the right edge of the player to download.
