What a treat it was to learn we have a Sports Psychologist (and former professional bicycle racer) among our ICI/PRO members!
Meet Dr. KC Wilder
KC and I had an interesting conversation about motivating your students that was completely off topic from what we had intended to discuss. Oh, well. I guess I'll have to have her back again.
We discussed her book during the interview; Tour de You: Swirling Circles of Freedom.
8/30 UPDATE: Dr. KC Wilder will be teaching her ride at the conference on Saturday Oct 1st

I look forward to meeting KC in the fall. I have just ordered the book and look forward to sharing it with the teams who use my classes for off-ice training.
I do something similar but different with the concept of intention inside a circle. It is derived from time spent on my road bike and my avocation as a silversmith. In my metalwork I use a tumbler to “finish” a piece. The rotary action of the tumbler rounds the edges and polishes while simultaneously work hardening it.
I ask my students to insert a ‘challenge’ into the “space” of their the pedal stroke, as if it were a tumbler. Intentions become work hardened, “problems” have their edges softened and can often transform into something beautiful.
