That was fun, being part of a New World Record for Static (their word) Indoor Cycling Participants. The official total of 1052 was certified by a representative of the Guinness World Records, who was on site to observe, at the end of the 2 hour class.
What an undertaking and to pull it off with only 4 weeks from conception to World Record.
Here is some video I shot while I was there.

Hey John do I see what I see !?!?!?!?!?!?
Contre indication movement ! Are there switching they one hand a time standing ?
I hope It is my glasses … but I am really not sure it is my glasses.
Yep, you are seeing it correctly.
I thought so!! Looked a bit crazy also with those hovering jumps!
Even so, it looked amazingly awe inspiring, to see all those spin bikes lined up. I cannot imagine the atmosphere in the room – it must have been electric (at the beginning at least!)Well done!!!!
Get to Zone 3/4 quickly in the first 10 minutes and then hold it for the first hour?? Whatever happened to warming up? Straddling anaerobic threshold for that long, and THEN the intervals start? (Lifetime uses threshold at the top of Zone 3 – so Zone 4 is anaerobic).
I’d put money on it – if they actually tracked people’s heart rates and printed a graph out, including the instructors at the front, very, very few people’s heart rates would have been that high for that long. Instructors need to be transparent, and they need to know that what they are asking for is actually possible and plausible for the average person (not to mention effective). These aren’t Tour de France athletes out there who CAN maintain threshold for an hour! And even if they are fit, it’s a 2-hour ride – and I still highly doubt anyone maintained that intensity for that long.
**sigh**
What is surprising to me is that they actually got over 1,000 people to put their hands behind their backs and switch them back and forth…(that is, 1,052 LESS at least one person in the crowd – John Mac!)
People can be just like lemmings!

So glad to read your post. When I watched the video and heard his class description, my reaction was….he expects everybody to be where and for how long?!?! And then to see the one hand switch move and then the push ups (or something) on the bike in the second video??? What a great event and I’m so glad they broke the record. However, I think it would have been better if they had been able to keep it true to what indoor cycling is.
