Instructor Dennis Mellon presents his A little Bit of Everything profile as our 60th Audio Class PROfile! What has me most excited is Dennis has included a Harmonically Mixed playlist he created with Mixed In Key software on his Mac.
Dennis exemplifies exactly what I refer to when I say; “we provide a platform for smart, talented Instructors here at ICI/PRO!” It brings me huge pleasure to discover and then promote Instructors to our members around the world + produce their class profiles for your enjoyment.
We're convinced these profiles, from a real diversity of contributors, with help you grow as an Instructor and then keep your class filed with energetic and excited riders!
This new Audio Class PROfile will make an awesome addition to your rotation of class profiles.
Ride Profile: “A Little Bit of Everything”.
This is my “Go To” profile. This workout, like the title says, is a little bit of everything. Riders will work on all energy systems and all types of riding. At some point in this workout every rider will work on both their strengths and weaknesses. The ride will start with a warm-up followed by a Threshold Check. The first set will be a longer “around threshold” ride. In the second set riders will perform three, 2-3 minute, “above threshold” intervals. The Third Set is a sustained “Race” effort. The workout will conclude with three 1 minute max efforts.
You'll need this track – Proper Education to complete your playlist. Right Click > Save As and then open in iTunes. It should show in your Spotify / Local Files library and you can add it before syncing to your phone.

I love Shazam… have I said that before? Well I do. It's one of the few Apps I've used more than once on my iPhone.
I'm using the premium version which connects the track to Spotify – makes it easy to then add to one of my “fun to use” playlists for future addition to a new class.
Keeping my phone close to me, with the intent to be ready to Shazam a track, has become a habit. I'll also bring it to a class I'm attending to covertly swip an interesting track I hear 🙂
But there's one thing I haven't figured out; how do I tag the song, so I know where I got it from? NOTE: we've published so many of these free tracks that I'm always concerned that where I got it from, was here!
Good things do happen on Craigslist! The original two that formed this group met there in 2011 , enabling them to quit writing jingles and go viral online instead :).
This 3:43, 90 rpm happy tune has my class working out of warm up and into a more serious flat road. Queuing, “add load to a place you'll be challenged and are willing to work from for the rest of the ride”, I set the tone for a ride of intense zone 3 (high aerobic zone) work.
Enjoy Capital Cities “Love Away” from their 2013 In A Tidal Wave of Mystery album. When you have some time, check out the whole album. It's got some great tunes on it!
Here's a great free download from from SoundCloud that's every bit as good as Capital Cities' in my opinion. (Remember to download right away, as downloads are often limited:
Now showing total time + hours and minutes beyond one hour!
Hi John! Have you heard the news? Apparently the Spotify timer is back. I have yet to receive the update but many instructors are already enjoying it!

It's about time 🙂
If you joined Spotify recently, you've had to live without any playlist timer. A major inconvenience when you want an accurate listing of total time.
Those of us joined a bit earlier enjoyed the playlist timer and were pretty frustrated when they removed it for no understandable reason. It wasn't perfect. A playlist of over 60 minutes displayed: Over One Hour, which wasn't much help when you were constructing a 90 minute endurance ride. I was creating two separate playlists; Part 1 & Part 2 so I could see the time, then combined them before class.
This new Spotify playlist timer showing both hours and minutes is a very welcome update.
To control the load on their servers, Spotify rolls out update notifications sequentially. I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they update their premium users first. If you're not seeing the new timer, I would first try closing Spotify if it's sitting open for a while. If that doesn't help you'll need to sit tight and wait until you see the update notification that will show on the top of Spotify page.
Comprehensive Training Exclusively for ICI/PRO Members.
ICI/PRO member Karin contacted me via email:
John, I still haven't gotten around to learning how to use Spotify so I'm not using the profiles yet. Is there any chance you will have a short training call to teach those like me?
Wishes for healthy & compassionate living,
Karin
Yes Karin, we will 🙂
Last fall we helped a bunch of Instructors skip the frustration of learning another new software program and quickly get comfortable using Spotify – which has become the choice of thousands of Instructors for delivering their class music.
I few will even tell you that Spotify has changed their lives!
Now that we have so many Instructors using Deezer, we'll be covering that service as well in separate training sessions.
We've created a special email list where you can receive notifications about upcoming live online training sessions.
