We Want the Best!
Stage5 Cycling is looking for the best indoor cycling instructors in the country and we are willing to put our money where our mouth is. Starting in 2010, we will be searching for 10 scholarship candidates per city to receive our 2-Day / 14-Hour comprehensive indoor cycling workshop. Recipients only have to pay for the workbook ($30) and we will cover the cost of the workshop registration ($245).
Why Are We Doing This?
Our workshops and certification is in demand all over the country and we don”™t have enough educators to meet the demand. Stage5 Cycling”™s goal is 2-fold: (1) populate the country with some of the most amazing indoor cycling instructors and programs available and (2) find and train those exceptional instructors that can become educators.
[Tom Scotto and I discuss the qualifications Stage5 is looking for in ICI/PRO Podcast # 89 - John]

We will be adding more cities as the scholarship program picks up momentum.

- New York — March 2010
- Tampa — TBD

What Are We Looking For?
Individuals must not only command the indoor studio with style, but have the ability to train other instructors and conduct practical exams and manage the certification process. Candidates should have knowledge in one or more of the following areas: anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, personal training, personal coaching, presentation skills and program design.

I would absolutely love to do that but I actually have been a sponge lately trying to soak up every bit of information I can get my hands on. I’ve been teaching spin for about 9 years now and I have come to a point in my fitness career where I have realized that I am so undertrained in this particular sport or in my case, indoor cycle class. I became a cycle instructor in 2002 and I was certified through Schwinn. At the time it was great and everyone loved it and we were taught basic bike set-up, program design, music, Imagery, etc., all of the components to teach the class. But the last couple of years I just haven’t felt like I know that much and I really want to be the best instructor I can be and not for what it will make me look like or how popular i can get but I do have a strong desire to help people achieve their goals and I think I lack the comunication skills that have been talked about so much on this website and on podcast. I do great with my other classes but it is the cycle class where I believe I struggle. So I have made a commitment to borrow or buy a bike and start riding which I know will help me in many ways. So, if it is in your interest to have someone who you can shape and mold into what you are needing, please call me at your convenience. My number is 559-285-9491 and my email is stacy4girls@yahoo.
Unless on the other hand you are looking for someone who is extremely teachable, and can learn easily and is willing to learn many different thoughts, ways, beliefs, etc.
Thank you and sorry for the long message.

IN NYC. ABSOLUTELY INTERESTED!!!!
I’m no where near applying for this awesome scholarship… Currently just a diehard spinner at a small studio for the past year and ready to move on to instructor certification… Was going to get started with an orientation class through SPINNING.com – Is this the best route to take?
Any other opinions / guidance on this process?
WOW! Thanks for all of the great comments and interest. We are trying to book as many locations as possible. I’d list all of the venues but it would be easier to check out our events page (www.stage5cycling.com/events). Not listed are workshops in Virginia, NYC, Cincinnati and Australia (!!!) coming in the fall.
Our 2-day workshops are for anyone from absolute beginner to advanced instructor/coach. With or without cycling experience. Feel free to contact me directly at 781-354-7520 if you have a club near you interested in hosting. I’ll make it worth your time!
Thanks again for the encouragement. We love what we do!! – Tom.

Walter,
there’s been a big development in the Stage5 world – Tom joined forces with Gene Nacey of Cycling Fusion this past fall, so he isn’t doing his scholarship program anymore – but they have other really big things going. Check out http://www.cyclingfusion.com for more information, or click on the logo at the top (they are one of our sponsors).
