Standing at the edge
I call this my Grand Canyon ride. I use the metaphor of standing at the edge, with great discomfort ahead of us and much relief behind us, to help my students understand the feeling of Threshold.

When necessary we have substituted individual songs of similar length and tried to maintain the Instructor's intent. Here's the playlist in Deezer

This sounds like is a creative and exiting idea to me. I will try to incorporate this concept into one of my classes 🙂
John: if one adds video to this class, does that not open the opportunity of distraction of the goals to the participants ?
In the past I would have said yes, they are a distraction Moritz. These Bike -O- Vision DVD’s are just rolling scenery. They help set the “place” where you are trying to take your class without being compelling or distracting.
Still waiting for the profile and playlist for this guys. THANKS!
Linky,
it’s coming soon, I promise. John sent it to me to edit…it’s on my To Do list!
Profile and playlist is up. Sorry for the delay. Re enforcing the need for backup. My HD failed and was only able to recover partial data. Enter Carbonite! Except the replacement computer I wanted to restore my music to was dead on delivery. So I’m waiting on the replacement for the replacement.
John:
I listened to this finally last night. Your cues of smooth, solid and strong are brilliant! I’ve been thinking of (another) way to cue posture during long endurance sets, when some of my students have a tendency to sit up or crumple down. Next time I see this in class, I will ask them to show me how solid they are by their posture. Great job!
John…
I am so excited to do this ride. I finally put in together using my own choice of music, which I would be happy to share, if wanted. I plan on riding this first on my own to real “get into it” and then introduce to my classes next week. I will definately share my experience wih it with you and Jennifer. I have one question: How would one go about getting a video into the class other than the obvious idea of using a DVD player? Is there something easier and just as effective? I would LOVE to incorporate the visuals into the language.
The only thing I can think of is to show stills of the Canyon that roll like a slide show.
Well, this has been one of my biggest hits with my classes! I can not tell you the amazing feedback I have gotten from this ride. I used different music, though, and that is one of the big feedback responses I’ve been getting is how empowering the songs I used, especially on the second half where we inch forward on the “edge”. I can not thank you and Jen enough for how you have helped me grow as an instructor. I have stepped out my so many comfort zones, one being my music one. I have incorporsted so many different music genres and styles since I joined ICI/PRO. You guys ROCK!!!
Thanks Kim,
