It's dark at 5:30 am and I'm one not to have many lights on in the morning. Yesterday I wished I had as I knocked my Dell laptop off the kitchen counter and it hit the hardwood floor with a loud CRASH. I stood there in the dark and began to hear a Click - Click - Click from my computer; a sound it never made before 🙁
I picked it up, opened the lid and was greeted with a notice "Hard Drive not detected."
Thankfully my warranty from Dell covered the hard drive and I'm supposed to get a replacement.
Once I replace it I will log in to Carbonite and begin recovering every one of my files. Because it backed up then night before, and I hadn't changed anything, I will have lost nothing.
Did your files backup last night?

I know what you feel.
I never know when my laptop decide to crash … right now I am lucky just with once a week … but I do not compt all the little bugs … I love window 7 !
I feel your pain! My hard drive crashed on my 1yr old HP Touchsmart computer a few months ago. Lesson learned – backup itunes all the time!! It took me hours to rebuild all my rides from an old back up on an old laptop computer. I don’t trust the new hard drive and still use the laptop for all music purchases.
I’m getting a new Mac for Christmas! Computer problems seem to be plaguing lots of people around me, including me (and we had way too many around the time of the conference). Here’s to a computer-problem-free 2011!
Wow! Thanks for the tip John – never heard of Carbonite before.
Jennifer – my wife has had 2 Macbooks in the last 3 years – both have had serious problems. Her first one is now an expensive paper weight as Apple refuses to accept responsibility that it just doesn’t work.
She gave Apple another chance and bought one of their new MacBooks from Amazon. Luckily she did as it last all of 2 hrs before it died. Thank goodness for Amazon’s return policy – all she had to pay was return shipping. She now uses a Toshiba laptop.
Anyway, my advice if you get a new Mac is get it from Amazon. 17% of customer reviews of the iPad on Amazon all say it doesn’t work – either DOA or the wireless doesn’t stay connected for more than 10 mins at a time. It seems the once high quality of Apple has diminished somewhat.
