Really great pod cast. I try to use motivational language in my classes but felt I was in a bit of a rut; thanks to this podcast, I’m going to go back to the drawing board and re-think what I’m trying to coach my class to do and how I want to do it.
Thanks!!!
I’m surprised to see only one comment for this post/podcast. This is really one of the best non-profile contributions so far ! Congratulations Jade !
Yes, I second (third) that. Jade is an amazing coach!
I think the best part of this podcast is making you relook at what your cues are. After teaching for a while I feel like I repeat myself over and over. I come from a high school coaching background so giving the “rah rah” speech is part of who I am, but making that speech one that is inspirational and important to the 20-something year old student to the 50-something takes more work than I ever could imagine.
We are installing a projector into our group fitness room and after John’s comment about shining the words on the wall this made me think I should build a PPT with motivational words and phrases. If I was sitting in the audience as a student I think I would really enjoy that. I have added this to my to-do list and can’t wait until I use this idea. Thanks.
Dane, yes, that is an awesome idea. I did something similar for a ride I did at WSSC in 2009 called How Big is Your Why. I projected motivational quotes on the wall, and just let them scroll throughout the ride. They repeated a few times through.
I like your idea of just projecting that one or two word inspiration though. It’s quicker, they don’t have to spend time reading it. It instantaneously has its impact, which may be different for each person.
