This weeks ride is from Karyn Silenzi! - “HIIT training creates metabolic advantages beyond the after burn. Training at and above LT is beneficial for endurance, aerobic, anaerobic and VO2 max training objectives. Discuss the analogy of aerobic vs anaerobic. Physiological markers are beneficial in sets where HR response may be delayed due to shorter interval sets. Focus on recovery HR and length of time it takes to stabilize. Ride is designed so that VO2 Max and LT levels are challenged resulting in glycogen depletion. Steady state drill at end of ride is to draw out performance in a glycogen depleted state. If rider really struggles with this, let them know continual training and progressive overload will create future physiological adaptations and to focus on progression rather than perfection.
